Great Manchester 10k

DID YOU SPOT THEM?

Two North Wales athletes shared the limelight with the world stars when they lined up for the BUPA Great Manchester 10k.

As Tiranesh Dibaba was introduced to the crowd on the start-line alongside her was Rhyl's Katie Parry (Leeds City), wearing a Welsh vest.

Dibaba went on to win by a big margin while Parry came home 26th in 38.28.

At the men's start Ethiopia's Kenenisa Bekele lined up alongside Ricky Challinor (ex-Deeside, Liverpool Harriers), also in the red of Wales. Challinor eventually finished 55th in 33.17.

The first North Walian home was Maldwyn's Andrew Davies, who was 14th in 30.30, and he was followed 13 places behind by Nathan Jones (Eryri) in 31.19.

Other North Walians well-placed were: 60 Christian Prior (Salford) 32.01, 68 Stefan Sayer (Menai) 34.24, 133 Chris Yorke (NWRR) 37.10 and 168 Andrew Kerr (NWRR) 38.10.
