TWO NEW NW CHAMPIONS

The annual Wrexham 10-mile race was boosted by the presence of a large contingent from the Wilmslow club who included the event in their club's Grand Prix, and they dominated the team awards.

 

 They also provided the race winner in Damian Nicholls, who overhauled Daniel Weston (Wrexham) and 2013 champion Brendan Rothery (Eryri) in the closing stages.

 

 Weston finished second to take the North Wales title for the first time, while Wrecsam Tri veteran Helen Davies was first lady home, thus also claiming the championship for the first time.

 

 One of the most impressive performances came from Maldwyn veteran James Ashworth, who finished fifth overall and won the M55 class in 59.30.

 

 New to the area, he has a superb pedigree, having returned to the sport after a long break. When a member of Keighley and Craven he won the 1985 Berlin Marathon in 2-11 and had a half-marathon best of 62.24.
