Willis creates history

NEW RECORD FOR WILLIS

Wrexham's Matthew Willis created a bit of Welsh athletics history with an outstanding run in the Wales International meeting in Cardiff.

He became the first U15 boy to break 9 minutes for 3,000 metres with a time of 8-57.25 which smashed the old record of 9-12.50 set 15 years ago by Luke Northall, also of Wrexham.

At the same meeting Charlie Hulson (Sale) finished second in the men's 3,000m in 8-19.85, just a fraction of a second behind winner Adam Bitchell. Both men broke the stadium record.

In the international meeting Hannah Thomas (Wrex) finished third in her 100m in 12.24 whilst Shannon Malone (Deeside) won her own heat in 12.12. Thomas helped the Welsh ladies' team to an easy win in the 4 x 100 relay.
