Wilmslow and Liverpool Halves

TOP PERFORMANCES IN MARATHON BUILD-UP

Two North Wales athletes with their sights set on sub-2 hour 20 performances in upcoming marathons had morale-boosting outings at the weekend.

 The top result came from Maldwyn's Andrew Davies who won the Liverpool Half-Marathon in a season's best of 69.52 despite a strong wind. He finished almost 80 seconds clear of runner-up Jorge Varela. He is aiming to compete in the Manchester Marathon.

 Among other North Wales results were: 17 Stefan Sayer (Menai) 76.56, 196 Andrew Campbell (Wrecsam Tri) 89.19, 208 Simon Quick (Buckley) 89.37.

 Meanwhile in the Wilmslow Half Eryri's Rob Samuel, who is competing in London next month, was fifth in a high-class field with a time of 68.13.

 Bangor student Callum Rowlinson (Sale) was 20th in a pb of 73.21 and other leading performances came from Alison Lavender (Oswestry), who was second lady overall in a pb of 76.44, Robert Jones (Wrex), who was 61st in 79.13, and Wrexham's Emma Crowe, who was 2nd L40 in 80.56.

  1. Also NWRRC runners, notably Chris Yorke 1h23m31s (4th M45) just a week after setting a PB at the Barca marathon and Kay Hatton (1h45m46s) who was 3rd in her age category
