Island Games (3)

TWO GOLDS FOR YNYS MON

The Island Games' athletics programme ended on a high note for Ynys Mon who captured two gold medals.

Mikaela Harrison, who is based in Wakefield and studying in Loughborough, followed up her third place in the 400 metres flat by winning  the 400m hurdles in 64.30.

Iolo Hughes completed the same " double". Having failed to repeat his victory in the 5,000m in Bermuda two years ago by coming third this time, he made amends by winning the 1,500m in a new personal best of 3-54.95.

He finished less than a second ahead of Elliott Dorey (Jersey), who won the 5,000m. Previous winners of both events were Keith Gerrard (Isle of Man) and Lee Merrien (Guernsey), both renowned at national level.

The Ynys Mon men narrowly missed out on further medals, coming fourth in the men's 4 x 100 relay.
