PEAKE PULLS OUT - BUT BRONZE FOR WARBURTON

Pole vaulter Sally Peake was forced to withdraw from the British championships in Birmingham through injury and the title went to Holly Bradshaw, who beat her last week in the Welsh championships in Cardiff.

Caernarfon's Gareth Warburton continued his comeback by picking up a bronze medal in the 800m. In his heat he was fourth in 1-49.79 and his medal-winning time in the final was slightly slower at 1-50.41.

Former Deeside AC athlete Owen Smith (Cardiff) was fifth in his 400m heat in 47.68, less than a second behind winner Nigel Levine and then went out in the semis after  coming fifth again in 48.45.

Teenager Adele Nicoll (Birchfield) from Welshpool  followed up her fourth place in the shot by coming eighth in the discus, and in the hammer Osian Jones (Liverpool Harriers) was still some way off Shaun Pickering's Welsh record, finishing ninth with a best throw of 63.23.

Georgina Outten (Birchfield, ex-Colwyn Bay) returned from injury in the 1,500m, coming 15th in her heat in 4-31.29, while fellow Welsh international Ffion Price from Llandrindod was seventh in her heat in a time of 4-22.9. In the final she finished 12th in 4-31.24.
