WILLIS MIXES IT WITH THE BEST

The best of North Wales' talented youngsters did themselves and region proud when they competed in the British Cross Challenge meeting in Antrim.

Menai's Cari Hughes came third in the under-15 girls' race and her brother Iolo had another fine outing. With the under-15s, under-17s and under 20s all running  together former Maldwyn Harrier Gwynant Jones (Cardiff) was the first of the North Wales finishers in 10th place in 17.50.

Iolo was just two places and six seconds behind, but the most eyecatching run came from Wrexham's under-15 athlete Matthew Willis, who was 18th in 18.13. This time he had the better of his clubmate and Welsh inter-regional champion Christian Smith, who finished 33rd.

In the senior races Maldwyn's Andrew Davies was an excellent 13th, one place behind Swansea's Dewi Griffiths.
