British Cross Challenge

BRILLIANT SHOW BY NW YOUNGSTERS

Some of North Wales's top young athletes once again proved they could mix it with the country's best with tremendous displays in the British Cross Challenge at Sefton Park, Liverpool.

Former Deeside AAC member Charlie Hulson, who gained his first GB vest last winter, impressed once again,  finishing eighth overall and fifth U23 in the high-quality senior men's race. He finished one place behind fellow Welshman Dewi Griffiths (Swansea), winner of the first Challenge race at Bristol.

In the same race Ricky Challinor (Liverpool Harriers, ex-Deeside) finished 107th.

Menai's Iolo Hughes was the highest-placed North Walian, coming third in the highly competitive U17 class, with his sister Cari just one place lower in the U15 girls' raced.

Another Menai youngster, Osian Perrin, finished third in the U11s' competition and Wrexham's Matthew Willis was 7th in the U15 class.

GB mountain runner Nathan Jones (Eryri) was 35th in the U20 men's race.
