Welsh Castles Relay

ERYRI SLIP ON SECOND DAY

After a brilliant opening day Eryri Harriers struggled to maintain their position on the second day of the Welsh Castles Relay, eventually finishing 13th overall - still a highly creditable performance.

The host club Les Croupiers took the overall title, with Salford winning the Kings of the Mountain trophy. In that category, covering six mountain stages, the Gwynedd club was seventh.

Other North Wales placings in the open race were: 43 Denbigh Harriers, 48 Prestatyn, 56 Abergele Harriers. Mountains: 41 Denbigh, 42 Abergele, 44 Prestatyn.

Eryri had a total of nine finishers in the leading 10 on the various stages. They were: 6 John Rowley, 1 Brendan Rothery, 2 Daniel Kashi, 9 Dewi Owen, 7 Huw Owen, 1 Matthew Roberts, 6 John Parkinson, 3 Llyr Pierce.

Andrew Jones and Dean Longley (Prestatyn) both gained Top 10 places, along with Ben Lightowler and Darren Blazier (both Abergele), and John Morris (Denbigh).

The full results are on the Les Croupiers website.
