Home Countries trail champs

ANOTHER BIG WIN FOR JONES

Eighteen-year-old Nathan Jones chalked up another massive win at the weekend when he claimed the junior men's title at the Home Countries' trail-running championship in Keswick.

Jones, who has left Colwyn Bay AC for Eryri Harriers, won the Welsh trail championship in Ponterwyd last month and is in the GB team for next month's European mountain-running championships in Bulgaria.

In Keswick he clocked 36.11, with former Maldwyn runner Gwynant Jones (now Cardiff) sixth in 38.58.

In the Junior Ladies' race Georgia Garner (Colwyn Bay) was third and Rhiannedd Price (Brecon) sixth.

England's Steve Vernon retained his senior title, with Andrew Davies (Mercia) second. Ricky Challinor (Liverpool Harriers), who was also representing Wales, was 12th.
