BETWS  HOSTS ANOTHER WORLD CHAMPION

What has six legs and runs like the wind? The answer is the partnership of Kim Mazzucca and her dog Pendasher Late Boy.

The two of them have collected a host of awards, including European and World titles, in the past couple of years in the increasingly popular Cani races and on Saturday they showed how  with an outstanding performance in the 10k trail race at Betws y Coed. It was virtually the same course as that used for the World Mountain-running championships last month.

In appallingly wet and muddy conditions 50-year-old Kim from the Forest of Dean club, and her dog, a Mammut, finished in an amazing 36.11, faster than the men's winner of the open 10k.

Menai's Ryan Cain  won the 5k of the Trail Betws programme , finishing almost four minutes clear of fellow teenager Gethin Davies (Eryri) in 21.45.

The open 10k winner was Scott Hudspith (Aberystwyth University) in 37.54, with Ali Keates (FRA, L55) winning the ladies' race in 46.23.
