Milton Keynes Cross Challenge

THE THRILL OF THE SPILL

Menai's Michael Spill continued his emergence from the shadow of his older brother John with an outstanding win in the Milton Keynes Cross-Challenge, the first of this  winter's series.

In September he gave a glimpse of his promise by taking John's course record in the North Wales junior fell-running championships in Llandudno, but his victory in Saturday's under-13's  race far outshone that.

He won in 9.17, with his Menai clubmate Cai LeTrobe-Roberts 16th in  10.13.

There were several fine performances by North Wales youngsters, with Cari Hughes coming 2nd in the U17 competition and her brother Iolo 6th in the men's equivalent.

Just one second and one place ahead of Cari was former Colwyn Bay runner Georgina Outten (Birchfield), who was  5th in the U20 category.
