REMEMBER HIM?
One name caught my eye while scanning the results of the recent Sandstone Trail 17-miler and it will probably be familiar to other super-vets like myself.
In 56th place in the event was a certain Gerry Helme, who, at the age of 57, clocked a highly creditable 2-30.04.
The former St Helens and Sutton athlete was once a familiar on the North Wales road-running scene, winning the Prestatyn half-marathon in the '80s.
In 1983 he came second in the London Marathon in 2-10.12 behind fellow Englishman Mike Gratton and his pb for a half-marathon was 62.51.
