Manchester Marathon

ROWLANDS HAS  A FLIER IN MANCHESTER

Wrexham vet Darren Rowlands had a tremendous run in the Great Manchester Marathon, coming 20th overall and winning the M45 class in 2-34.56.

 Among other North Wales resu lts were: 161 David Parker (Meirionnydd) 2-52.05, 1,079 Sean Clarke (Maldwyn) 3-14.56, 1,163 Sean McCormack (Abergele) 3-16.28, 1,511 Stephen Owen (Wrexham) 3-24.01.

Cheshire 10k

PBs GALORE AT WARRINGTON

Cybi veteran Harvey Wharton led a host of North Wales runners to personal bests in the Cheshire 10k at Warrington, finishing 8th overall and third M35 in 32.59.

 Another to claim a pb was Alison Lavender (Oswestry), who was first lady home in 34.34.

FINLAY LEADS FIELD ON WILD CHASE

Scotland's Finlay Wild, winner of last year's Ben Nevis race, stormed to victory in the 10.5-mile Ras y Moelwyn from Blaenau Ffestiniog.
 The race attracted a huge field of over 350 as it was the first counter in this year's British Championship and the Lochaber athlete turned in a superb performance.

He finished in 73.09, over three minutes clear of the chasing pack,  the next four finishers all coming home within 14 seconds of each other.

SPILL MAKES A DASH FOR IT

The Aber Dash, the second race in the Joe Brown Tuesday night series of fell-races, lived up to its name with a number of superb performances.

 None was better than that of teenager John Spill, who, in winning the race, not only broke the U18 record but also the open record. In doing so he dragged second-placed Ron Grantham to a new  M40 best, while in 10th place overall was Steve P Jones, who smashed the M60 record by six minutes and beat all the M50 entrants.

JONES BREAKS FOUR-MINUTE BARRIER

Former Colwyn Bay member Nathan Jones from Rhyl set a new pb in coming second in the McNeese Spring Classic track meeting in Louisiana, where he is studying. His time was 3-58.10.

COURSE RECORD SMASHED AT PORTMEIRION

Welsh international Andy Davies (Stockport) took no prisoners in winning the second 6th Trail 6k race at Portmeirion, and although Oswestry veteran Paul Jones finished two minutes behind him he still managed to beat his 2014 winning time.
