PBs APLENTY AT STRETFORD

The night before winning the North Wales 5k title in Rhyl Georgina Outten was among several athletes from the region who set pbs at the Trafford Grand Prix meeting.

 In the 1,500m she was third U20 in a time of 4-20.82, just behind William Sheridan (Deeside), who clocked 4-20.07. In the same race Matthew Blackwell (also Deeside) in a pb of 4-19.47.

 Fifteen-year-old Cari Hughes (Menai) was up against more experienced athletes in her 1,500 race and came third in 4-32.17, also a pb, while in the 3,000m her brother Iolo finished eighth in 8-38.51. In third place was Russell Bentley (Kent/Eryri) in 8-33.18.

 Another 3,000m race on the same night was won by Oswestry teenager Jimmy Kershaw in 8-50.96.

MOUNTFORD BACK FOR INTER-REGIONALS

Liverpool Harrier David Mountford, who has been in good form in the United States, is in the North Wales squad for the Welsh inter-regional 10k championships in Caerphilly on June 22.

 Unsurprisingly after recent results Tomos Roberts (Meirionnydd) will be making his North Wales debut, as will Cybi's Harvey Wharton and Christian Prior (Salford), who has switched allegiance from Cheshire to North Wales.

 The teams are:- Senior men: Tomos Roberts (Meir), Andy Edwards (Cybi), Lee Jones (Deeside), Steffan Sayer (Menai), David Mountford (Liv H), Christian Prior (Salford).
 Masters: Andrew Campbell (Wrecsam Tri), Darren Blazier (Abergele), Jodi Waters (Abergele), Harvey Wharton (Cybi).
 Senior women: Jay Jennions (Deestriders), Helen Davies (Wrecsam Tri), Michaela Owen and Edith Gruber (Cybi), Abbie Cheetham and Amie Bagnall (Prestatyn).
 Master women: Lisa Morley (Wrexham), Tracey Llewellyn (Cybi), Helen McArthur (Colwyn Bay), Emma Collins (Denbigh).

CORTVRIENDS IN THE WEST COUNTRY

Denbigh Harriers Martin and Vicky Cortvriend had special souvenirs of their West Country holiday after picking up a total of four prizes in three testing races.

 In the Tintesfield 10k near Bristol Martin won the M60 class in 46.50 and Vicky finished in 75.38.

 The race was won by former Abergele and North Wales athlete Josh Dixon in 37.54. He is now a member of North Somerset AC as he is stationed with the RAF in the area.

 The Imerys Trail half-marathon near St Austell passes through the famous clay workings, and Martin again won his class in 1-50.30,

 Both he and Vicky won the M60 categories in the tough Beer Blazer events, Martin doing the 10k in 45.09 and his wife the 5k in 43.31.

 

Sun Centre 5k

ROBERTS AND OUTTEN TAKE NW TITLES

Meirioneth flyer Tomos Roberts made it three in a row when he won the Sun Centre 5k in Rhyl, thus becoming North Wales champion.

 It followed his recent victory in the Market Drayton 10k and the Borders League senior men's title.

 In perfect conditions he led from the start and was never under any pressure, winning by 27 seconds from Bangor student Callum Rowlinson.

 Colwyn Bay's Georgina Outten had an even easier win in the ladies' race. She finished 10th overall and was over three minutes clear of runner-up and fellow under-20 Abbie Cheetham.
